Tasmania bike tour November 2011:
In November David Marsden took a group of 9 local riders on a “tour of Tasmania” cycle tour. The tour was held over 5 days and started with a ride up the Tamar valley and back. Over the next four days we travelled from Launceston to St Helens on the East coast, then down to Swansea, on to Richmond and finished at the top of Mt Wellington above Hobart. We covered over 700 kilometers for the week, averaging just over 100 kilometers per day. The highlight was the climb to the top of Mt Wellington starting off at sea level and finishing at the top at 1240 meters above sea level 16 kilometers later, which is the equivalent of going up the Toowoomba range 3 times.
The sightseeing along the way was another highlight, fast flowing rivers, rainforest mountain passes, blue sea and white beaches, not to mention the history and old buildings. Everyone had a good time, but wished they had done some extra training beforehand!
